These
figures represent an average total cost, including all expenses,
but assume two things: 1) that your surrogate is charging
$15,000 for her fee and has insurance which covers the pregnancy,
and 2) that your surrogate conceives within the first 2 AI
attempts or on the first IVF/ET or IVF/ED attempt. Total actual
fees depend, of course, on the location of your surrogate,
how many tries it takes before she conceives, her fee, etc.
2
The
legal fees, as explained in the accompanying information,
are divided into 2 parts. The first $7500 is the initial withdrawal;
the second $5000 is the withdrawal that occurs only after
a pregnancy has been achieved.
3
Most
surrogates ask for around $15,000, although from time to time
we see somewhat higher or lower fees. If you select a surrogate
who is charging more than this amount, you would add the difference
to the total cost of the program. You will know this information
prior to selecting her. Your surrogate's fee is deposited
with SMI within 5 days after she conceives.
4
Egg Donor's fee
5
AID surrogacy is generally difficult to do unless you and
your surrogate are from the same state. If you are, then the
procedures are treated the same as any other traditional adoption.
6
Even though with an egg donor only, the wife is not biologically
related to the child, the law presumes that a woman who delivers
a child is the child's mother, and we need not pursue any
court action because of this.
